An ecological shopping centre that has found its audience
Skanssi seeks to operate as ecologically as possible and is the only shopping centre in Europe that has been granted two LEED certificates: during the construction period and during the operating period. Skanssi has a prominent identity dominating its immediate catchment that covers the Eastern side of Turku and city of Kaarina with population of over 150,000 people and total purchasing power of EUR 2,350 million. The area is projected to experience significant population growth over the next decade, bringing an increasing amount of new retailers and shoppers to Skanssi.
“We have become a trendsetter for other real estate projects by being the first shopping centre in Europe that has been granted LEED certificates for both, sustainable construction and sustainable operations. Moreover, we have made significant savings in energy consumption. Our clients appreciate our green values and are happy to shop in an ecological shopping centre. During the certification process the whole personnel and the firms operating in Skanssi have accumulated significant knowledge and we can make use of this competence in our future projects,” says Liisa Nikkanen, CEO, Shopping Centre Skanssi.
