CapMan Infra completes first EUR 70 million deal and launches EUR 300 million fundraising

CapMan Infra has signed its first investment, where it will lead a Finnish investor consortium to invest EUR 70 million in an Allianz Capital Partners managed account solution in Elenia, a leading Finnish electricity network and district heat company. The investors behind CapMan Infra consist of leading Finnish pension funds and other long-term investors, including CapMan Plc. CapMan Infra has strengthened its team with the addition of four new investment professionals across its Helsinki and Stockholm offices and launches the fundraising of a Nordic, infrastructure fund with a target size of EUR 300 million.

The managed account investment in Elenia highlights CapMan Infra’s position as a Nordic local infrastructure specialist and exemplifies its ability to create investment opportunities for its investors in infrastructure. The team’s relationships with international blue-chip investor Allianz Capital Partners was pivotal in securing access to this opportunity.

With the momentum of its first signed managed account deal, a strong deal pipeline for the fund and the new team hires, CapMan Infra is launching the fundraising of a pan-Nordic infrastructure fund, CapMan Nordic Infrastructure I (the “Fund”) with a target size of EUR 300 million. The Fund will invest across the Nordic countries in mid-sized core /core+ brownfield infrastructure companies through either majority or minority equity investments. CapMan Infra aims to utilize its strong local presence, long infrastructure experience and extensive network in proactive deal sourcing and applying active value creation in its target companies. Investments can be selectively upsized with further capacity from co-investments from the fund investors.

“The launch of the fundraising of CapMan Nordic Infrastructure Fund I provides further strong evidence of CapMan’s ability to execute its strategy in developing new attractive investment products to its local and international investor base and supporting the growth of new investment teams as part of the CapMan Group,” states CEO of CapMan Plc, Joakim Frimodig.

CapMan Infra has invested significantly in its team by adding four new investment professionals and has promoted Harri Halonen to Partner. Torborg Chetkovich is joining the team as the third Partner and will be based in Stockholm with Harri. She has over 20 years of international experience across the transportation sector, most recently as CEO of Swedavia, the Swedish national airport company, and prior to that as CEO of Hong Kong-based railway giant MTR in the Nordics. Sauli Antila will join as a Director in the Helsinki office, and brings to the team 15 years of experience from the energy industry, where he most recently was Head of Strategic Asset Management in the largest Finnish electricity network company, Caruna. In addition, the team’s transaction experience is bolstered through the appointments of Pekko Haaksluoto as Senior Investment Manager and Jesse Petäjä as Investment Associate to the Helsinki office. Both have strong backgrounds in Nordic M&A advisory, with Pekko joining from Danske Bank and Jesse from Citigroup, where they each acquired pertinent experience from several relevant infrastructure deals.

“I’m excited to start executing our strong deal pipeline across target infrastructure sectors in energy, transportation and telecoms in the Nordic region with this high caliber team of investment professionals that have, in total, over 60 years of relevant experience in infrastructure investments and operations. I am pleased to welcome the new joiners to the CapMan team and am convinced we will make CapMan Infra one of the key investment strategies of CapMan,” says Ville Poukka, Managing Partner of CapMan Infra.
