Events and fundraising update
CapMan’s yearly events CapMan Limited Partners Day and CapMan Lunch Event in Oslo were held in the early summer. CapMan Senior Partner Ari Tolppanen was awarded for his contribution to the research and teaching of entrepreneurship and private equity in Finland. On the fundraising front the CapMan Life Science IV held its final closing in May. The fundraising for CapMan Technology 2007 is on the homestretch.
CapMan Limited Partners Day, Stockholm (In the picture)CapMan's second Limited Partners Day was held in Stockholm on 29 May. Investors attended presentations on CapMan funds and portfolios as well as updates on CapMan’s portfolio companies MQ, Skandia Autologistics, QuickCool and Locus. The former Prime Minister of Sweden, Mr Göran Persson, won the audience with his charismatic speech about the current state of the EU and his views over the climate change as well as the economic market situation.

For the third time, Restaurant Bølgen & Moi in Oslo offered nice surroundings at CapMan’s yearly Lunch Event for Norwegian network. Some 130 participants from Norwegian business life listened to the key note speaker Mr Mika Kojonkoski. The Finnish ski jumping coach for the successful Norwegian ski jumping team reminded of the importance of teamwork, be it in business or sports.
Senior Partner Ari Tolppanen awarded a Helsinki University of Technology medal
Helsinki University of Technology has awarded CapMan Senior Partner Ari Tolppanen a medal for significant contribution to development and support of research and teaching of entrepreneurship and private equity. CapMan and its main owners in co-operation with the City of Espoo and OKO Venture Capital donated private equity professorship to Helsinki University of Technology in 2003 for a five-year period. The purpose of the professorship is to develop the prerequisites of Finnish entrepreneurship and private equity, to encourage the increase of entrepreneurial activity and to develop the ability to create internationally successful companies.
CapMan Life Science IV fund held its final closing in May at EUR 54 million. The fund invests in medical technology and service companies mainly in the Nordic countries. The fund has already made investments in five companies. Neoventa Medical AB is specialised in fetal monitoring in perinatal healthcare, ProstaLund AB manufactures devices for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, QuickCool AB develops a new method for quick cooling of the brain to prevent brain damage, Nacka Närsjukhus Proxima AB is a specialised healthcare service provider and Telemark Røntgen Group provides state of the art medical imaging services across Norway.
CapMan Technology 2007 had closed commitments totalling EUR 140 million as at the end of the first half of the year. The fund’s investment focus on expansion and later stage technology companies in the Nordic countries has supported the fundraising has attracted the interest of many investors. The fund remains open for another couple of months.
